Sometimes people overlook porcelain tile flooring as an option for their interior and exterior flooring needs. They forget to take the time and educate themselves on the outstanding characteristics porcelain tile has.

Porcelain tiles are baked at very high temperatures for long periods of time, removing nearly all the water from the clay. This longer drying time makes porcelain tile much harder and denser than ceramic. Porcelain tile has a water absorption rate of 0.5% or less.

Because of its durability, porcelain tile flooring is a perfect option for both interior and exterior use. Whereas, ceramic tile is typically only recommended for indoor use. Also, they are non-porous, resist scratching and can withstand temperature extremes.

Color and Appearance

Ceramic and porcelain tend to have different overall colorings and appearances. While ceramic tile is usually known for its natural red terra-cotta backing, porcelain is typically white or grey. This is an advantage, as white chips in the glaze can be highly visible on ceramic tiles. However, chips in porcelain are not as noticeable.
